i’m mad. watch out.
i’m sick of people (aka other simmers) thinking they’re all better than sim writers. when they haven’t even read ONE sim story, or even tried to write a sim story. they think they’re all high and mighty, sitting upon their big-boy throne. well get down OFF your throne, and see that thing that’s poking out of your ass? Yeah that’s your fat head, get it out and look around and see all the friggin work we do.
seriously, i know meshing, skinning, move-making is hard. but most of that stuff is technical. to write…you’ve got to have creative talent. in all aspects. for one thing, we write (obviously). now this is a whooolleee buttload of work. you need to make sure that your plotline flows, your reader can relate to the characters, your dialogue and descriptions can both reach out to the reader on different levels, your grammar and spelling are accurate, you capture emotions and WHOLE bunch of other crap.
THEN there’s picture taking. there’s a technique and art to taking a good sims picture. it’s almost just like taking a picture out in real-life. there’s certain angles, certain motions…and THEN comes the sims. and all you want to do is smack them upside their heads. they never listen. they do these whack-ass poses, or just look like a complete idiot when you want them to look sad.
then theres the editing portion. basically we story-writers kick ass at photo-editing. even a beginner story-teller is better at photo-editing than another simmer. we know the ins and outs of photoshop or any photo editing program, and yet we still spend 67 kajillion hours editing one picture to make sure it comes out right.
the cover. it’s gotta attract readers like a fat man to mcdonalds. bold, attractive, short and sweet. which ends up not being so short and sweet to make. becomes a venture where you end up making up new curse words. like “furder murter”
and after THATS all done, we release it. oh but no, it does not end there. theres this little thing called “downraters”, do skinners, meshers, move-makers have that problem? oh no they dont! but us storymakers just get WHALOPED with them. because there are these little monsters called immature 13 year olds who think its funny to downrate someone else’s story simply because it’s higher in rating than their story. and then your story never recovers.
oh and guestbook signings. does anyone ever tell you a full, detailed and wonderful compliment on your story? nope. you get “nice job” IF YOUR LUCKY. most of them are “whrd u get hr hair? i rally want it. and her outfitz 2″ or “u take 2 long on ur strys. u put 2 much descption”
so seriously. you think we don’t do any work? that its just writing? or its no where near as hard as what YOU do. get that pole out of your ass so i can beat you with it.
alright. i think…wooo…im done. told you. i can do some major ranting.

OHhh Man you are my HERO!!!!! Lets all bow down to the almighty great Brianna… who basically has just spilled the beans of what every single writer thinks about other such simmers. Thank you BRI!!!!! Everything you say and don’t forget replying to comments is something other simmers don’t have to deal with either (also they don’t think they need to because they are too busy to comment back on what ever they made) Haha LOVE YOU GIRL! You are awesome, and SOOOO RIGHT!

Okay Bri. I love you so much right now.
“you need to make sure that your plotline flows, your reader can relate to the characters, your dialogue and descriptions can both reach out to the reader on different levels, your grammar and spelling are accurate, you capture emotions”
Indeed. I don’t goddamn see why people JUST CAN NOT GET THAT. Writing is more than: “”I love you” she said.” there has to be a connection. The meaning behind it. he creativity in presenting that certain scene.
“they never listen. they do these whack-ass poses, or just look like a complete idiot when you want them to look sad.”
UGH YESSSS. As a total pose nit-picker I SO know what you mean. The dialogue is: “The silvery tears glinted in her dark blue eyes, the heave of heavy, heart-wrenching emotion finally surfacing itself” and then she’s fucking SMILING at the KAMERYN, DAMMIT
” we know the ins and outs of photoshop or any photo editing program, and yet we still spend 67 kajillion hours editing one picture to make sure it comes out right.”
DUDE YES. It’s so hard to conjure poses to get everything damn right and you have to stitch them together. Unfortunately it won’t work. A lot of times. And then in comes dskjf glkf

AGH YESSS YESS YESS I CAN’T AGREE WITH YOU MOREEE. IT ONLY TAKES ONE GODDAMN MINUTE TO BRING A STORY DOWN WHILE IT TAKES HOURS TO BRING THE RATING UP. ONE CLICK, IT’S GONE, DAMMFDSKF. Meshers never deal with those. Ít all becomes “omg u r so gud teach me”.
Don’t get me started on the fucking guestbook signings. They don’t please me. It’s all OMG GET TEHSGFJSHD KJGSTORY OUT AND DSFJJG KWERE DID U GET DAT and you never really receive a real compliment.
WHOEVER SAID STORYWRITERS DONT WORK IS ON MARIJUANA, THAT ASS. I ALREADY CRIED AND MY BODY’S BATTERED AND TORN BECAUSE OF WORKING ON MINE. OOOH. WHO SACRIFICES THEIR FOOD FOR THEIR STORY? PSH. DSFLKGL WE DON’T WORK?? I BET WHO SAID THAT WAS SOME LAZY ASS ON THEIR HAMMOCK.
(you got me started up too! T____T Except I sounded a LOT meaner. o.O)

Oh wow, I guess part of living in my own little Jaclyn-bubble means I don’t realize other simmers think this way. That’s a shame. I really can’t see why they would think they’re so much better though—I mean, it’s hardly comparable mediums.
Of course, sometimes I wonder what Legacy writers think of the rest of us story writers because I know many story-writers turn their noses up pretty high to legacies. Meh.
But you’ so right about the many talents and skills we develop to write sims stories. It just plain isn’t easy to get pictures just right to go with your words/plots/emotions. And sims always misbehave. Bad sims.
I still stick by my thought that turning off my Sims2.com guestbook was one of the better ideas I’ve had. Keeping up with that thing and responding to ridiculous CC questions that have already been answered was just too much torture. Really, I highly recommend setting that thing to private. ^___^

Now that was a rant worth an oscar ;]]]]
I Totally Agree with it all too.
Writing is an Art. Like Drawing, It has to match, the lines have to meet, the colour blended just so.
sliceh // November 24, 2006 at 4:39 pm
Haha, I love you Bri. I totally agree.
Though, as a skinner AND a writer… well… I have to deal w/ a buttload of downraters and a buttload of people saying “hey can you animate this mesh?” “what programs did you use to make that outfit?” “i wish you had spent more time on this”.
arduouspursuit // December 6, 2006 at 6:03 pm
Totally agree with you…
Some people don’t realize how much dedication, time and “pain” it takes to make a sim story. I wouldn’t have thought so either at the beginning but MANY hours goes to writing a story, editing the pictures, picking the title and then having to stress about the comments received.
